Report for the U. S. House of Representative 36 Congress 2nd session

Major Alfred Mordechai was a 19th century military officer from North Carolina. He served as an instructor at West Point, assistant to the Secretary of War and the Chief of Ordnance as well as fighting in the Mexican American War. He resigned from the U. S. military rather than take a side in the Civil War.

This study of the Crimean War led to changes in U.S. military tactics as taught at West Point, and had a pronounced influence on the civil war.
