Printed on fine paper, this masterpiece of Natalis de Wailly's work includes chronology, styles, nomenclature, etc., with beautiful typography plates depicting manuscripts from the 7th century or earlier. The French Minister of Public Instruction commissioned the author and gave him permission to research and study some of the oldest and rarest manuscripts and documents in the Archives Nationales.
