A rare complete portfolio of six woodcuts of landscapes and figures in Norway, Sylt and Northern Germany. Six artistic renderings that were heavily influenced by the concept of landscape representation as it was developed by the artists of the Hamburg Secession. Extremely rare as a complete set with both, title page and Sieker's introduction.

Born in Hanau Eduard Hopf (1901-1973) was educated as a goldsmith and turned to painting after moving to Hamburg in the mid 1920s. Hopf traveled to Norway and Italy and nursed an intensive exchange with artists of the Secession in Hamburg. In 1932 he joined the studio circle with Nesch, Ballmer and Grimm in the Ohlendorf house. Hopf was a known anti-Nazi. Many of his works were lost during the Nazi reign and the bombing of Hamburg during WW II.

After the war Hopf further developed his own stile in the vain of the Hamburg Secession. His later works are decidedly influenced by the traumatic experiences of World War II. Eduard Hopf's works are held in the collections of the Hamburg Kunsthalle, the Museum for Arts and Crafts, Hamburg, the Gottorf Castle and other important art collections. Asides that Hopf's artwork adorns several buildings in Hamburg. Portfolio covers separated at spine but with only minor losses along those edges. All plates in fine condition. Good- to fine condition. Item #56053
