Published in 1940, this first edition of "For Whom the Bell Tolls" by Ernest Hemingway was one of the author’s more successful books and had a large printing run of over 100,000 copies.

1) Published by Scribner; 2) 1940 date on title page; 3) “A” printed to copyright page below copyright info; 4) No Scribner seal (one of the exceptions to the rule!).

Minor rubbing and age-toning to covers and spine. Front endpaper with brown, half inch, vertical strip of residue. Block lightly age-toned and dustjacket with light wear along edges, more pronounced at head and tail of spine. Good- to good+ condition. Item #55837
