Color frontispiece with tissue guard. Title page with publisher's device and "Price One Shilling" printed above. Contains twenty colored enlargements from Tenniel illustrations to "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" with the text adapted to nursery readers by Lewis Carroll. Cover design and colored by E. Gertrude Thomson. Engraved and printed by Edmund Evans.

Original John Tenniel signature on small paper plate affixed to half-title.

Alice, on page 34, while looking at the Cheshire Cat in the tree is pictured with her back to the viewer as in Tenniel's original edition. Contains "An Easter Greeting" and "Christmas Greetings" by Lewis Carroll at rear, with two pages of publisher's advertisements of Carroll titles and one "Specimen Page" at rear. The first page of advertisements for Lewis Carroll books lists The Nursery Alice with "price 4S." Some wear and rubbing along edges and covers. Previous owner's name inked to front free endpaper. Endpapers with some damp-staining near gutter. Top edge of block lightly wavy with half of the pages showing light edge of water exposure. A few minor imperfections, e.g. very light staining at lower foredge corner of title page. Very good condition. Item #55751
