Large Octavo. xi [ii], 182 [1,1]pp. Original gilt-stamped red Morrocco with gilt border fillets on covers, gilt lettering and decorative ruling on spine; protected by modern mylar. Housed in green cloth slipcase with decorative, lettered and illustrated tan paper laid to spine. Gilt edges. Engraved frontispiece and vignette on title page. Signed by the real Alice from Alice in Wonderland, Alice Hargreaves (née Liddell) on front free endpaper and Frederic Warde on the colophon.

Carroll had told the stories to Hargreaves and her sisters during the infamous boat ride with Rev. Duckworth rowing the boat and later convincing Carroll to write these stories down. This is one of only 500 copies signed on free endpaper. Illustrations by John Tenniel and engraved on wood by Bruno Rollitz. Printed by at the Printing House of William Edwin Rudge, typography and binding by Frederic Warde. Small chip at head of spine and minor wear along edges. Tiny hole just below indented frame with Hargraves' signature, possibly burn from ashes. Slipcase with some suning of spine and along edges. Near fine condition. Item #55750
