Illustrated maps on endpapers drawn by Milne and E. H. Shepard. Title page vignette, decorations and beautiful illustrations by Ernest H. Shepard, including several full page drawings. First Deluxe edition.

The character of Winnie-the-Pooh appeared first in the 38th poem of Milne's 1924 book "When We Were Very Young," originally published in Punch Magazine in February 1924. It was a Christmas Eve story in 1925, commissioned by the Evening News, where Winnie-the-Pooh made his first appearance under this name.

Very light wear at corners and head and tail of spine, minor along edges. Minor stain (1 x 1/2") at bottom of back cover near spine. Endpapers with minor age-toning along gutters. Block in fine condition. Subtle inked name and date entry on front free endpaper. Good+ to fine condition. Item #55724
