First edition: Verlag "Jugoslavija" 1971. Hardcover. Large Octavo. Original decorative fauc vellum with gilt-stamped lettering on cover and spine. Hebrew Haggadah ends on page 50.

The Sarajevo Haggadah, an illuminated manuscript originating in Barcelona circa 1350, is among the oldest surviving Sephardic Haggadah in the world. The work is notable in that it is the only illuminated manuscript Haggadah that depicts the biblical story, from the Creation of the world in the Book of Genesis through to the Passover story. The work written on bleached calfskin and illuminated in copper and gold is considered by many to be the single most beautiful and elaborate manuscript of the Sephardic tradition, and one of the most prized articles of Jewish art in general. The Haggadah got its name from National Museum in Sarajevo, where it resurfaced in 1894. Text in English. Very good to fine condition. Item #55670
