Karl Friedrich Schinkel (1781-1841) was twenty-one when he exhibited his first work in an exhibition at the Berlin Akademia, a set design for the final scene of the tragedy Iphigenia in Aulis, showing a complex scene including the sacrificial procession at the Temple of Diana. It made a great impression on the architect Johan Gottfired Schadow who mentioned it in his memoirs: "... It so surpassed everything so far seen in this field that it evoked general admiration."
