"Willis Polk's Inspiration. Make no little plans; they have no magic to stir men's blood and probably themselves will not be realized. Make big plans; aim high in hope and work, remembering that a noble, logical diagram once recorded will never die, but long after we are gone will be a living thing, asserting itself with ever-growing insistency. Remember that our sons and grandsons are going to do things that would stagger us. Let your watchword be order and your beacon beauty.- D.H. Burnham."
Best known for his work in San Francisco as a representative of D. H. Burnham & Company. Polk was considered to be one of the most influential architects and urban planners in the city. Among the highlights of his career were the design for the Hobart Building, the tallest building in San Francisco, his appointment as the chair of the architectural planning committee for the Panama-Pacific International Exposition, and the design of the Hallidie Building.
