Goya's renderings of bullfights in days when useless attrocities were not part of the fight to thrill the international rabble. In this set Goya presents the historical development of bullfighting, following suggestions of the young Moratin's writing about the origin and developemtn of the "Fiestas de Toros en Espana." This set was rendered by Goya at the beginning of the second decade of the 19th century, when orders for paintings had all but dried up and he turned to the art of gravure he had learned to master in his youth.
Text in German. Portolio coversr ubbed with wome light stainingon front, linear lines on back cover. Illustrated Ex-Libris on inside front cover. Two of the four portfolio flaps with creasing at left corners. Half-title with light age-toning at foredge, title page with small strip of sunning along bottom edge. Etchings in fine condition.
