München: Verlag Franz Eher Nachfolger, 1936. First edition. Hardcover. Large Octavo. 140pp. Original red cloth with gilt lettering on cover and spine, in photo-illustrated original dustjacket. Publisher's device on title page.

Extensive treatise on Georg Ritter von Schönerer, Austrian landowner, proponent of pan-Germanism and fierce anti-Semite, who at some point had been an employee of the House of Rothschild. Shaken by the 1866 Austrian defeat in the Austrian-Prussian war Schönerer became a political activist and admirer of Otto von Bismarck, was elected to the Austrian parliament in 1873 and became political activist, broke with his party three years later and began agitating against "Jewish" capitalism. In 1882 he drafted the Linz Program with Viktor Adler and Heinrich Friedjung, proposing an Austro-German National Movement. In 1885 he added an "Aryan Paragraph" to the Linz Program leading to the breach with Adler and Friedjung. His supporters addressed him as the "Führer" and used the "Heil" greeting, which was later adopted by Hitler.

This detailed treatise of life and career of Schönerer provides a profound picture of the development of his political life towards nationalism and anti-Semitism, including a chapter on Adolf Hitler's view of Schönerer and his pan-German movement. In his famous work "Mein Kampf" too, Hitler recognizes Schönerer's work and the movement he created. In her book "The Origins of Totalitarianism" Hannah Arendt describes Schönerer as the "spiritual father" of Adolf Hitler. Profusely illustrated with sepia-toned photographs and facsimile reproductions of correspondence.
