The Whitehall Conference, convened by Oliver Cromwell in December of 1655, was a gathering of English merchants, clergymen and lawyers to decide on the readmission of Jews to England. Though Cromwell and his officials as well as military representative and religious groups were in favor of the proposal, merchants were against it. The conference ended without conclusion. However, the legal finding that the readmission of Jews was legal in principal, contributed to the readmission of Jews to England in the 1660s.
