Bound in three-quarter light brown leather over decorative black cloth, gilt ruling on covers and gilt lettering and tooling on spine; raised bands. Marbled edges and endpapers. Frontispiece engraving, title page with portrait engraving; title page cut along edges (3/4" with no loss of text and printed to lighter paper). Contains extracts from Vitruvius, Pliny, etc. relative to the Buildings of the Ancients. Calculated for the Use of those who wish to attain a summary knowledge of the Science of Architecture. Illustrated with eleven plates, including vignette. Dictionary of terms at rear. Scuffing of leather corners and head and joints of spine. Bookstore plate in upper foredge corner of inside front cover, and bookplate of Charles Stuart. Inked name on verso front endpaper. Title page as described above. Plates at rear lightly age-toned, with very light foxing at lower and foredge, not affecting images. Very good condition. Item #55019
