Jewish Yellow Star Badge [WITH] Owner's Certificate of Naturalization for Palestine

[1940]. This powerful two-piece collection includes Chaim Perel's Yellow Jewish Star Badge from the Holocaust and his subsequent Certificate of Naturalization for Palestine. Together these two items serve as both important documentation of the plight of European Jews during this horrible period, and of one family's journey to escape persecution.

Upon the Nazi invasion of Poland in September of 1939, all Polish Jews, were now subject to persecution and violence, just as their fellow German Jews had been previously. Starting in 1938 all Jews in German occupied territory were forced to wear the Yellow Star Badge, identifying them as targets for ostracization and exclusion. Over the next months the Perel family (of Jedrzejow, Poland) like countless other Polish Jews sought to flee the country. The family, including Chaim, his wife Chaja Rojza and their 15-year old son Akiva, fortunately managed to successfully emigrate to British Mandatory Palestine. This signed document, which includes original photograph portraits of Chaim Perel (b.1890) and his wife serves as proof of their undoubtedly difficult journey. Text is printed trilingually in English, Hebrew and Arabic. Document with some vertical folding creases and staining to extremities. Item #54900
