The Hamburg-America Line (HAPAG) was a transatlantic shipping company known for its luxurious, large and fast ocean liners traveling between Europe and North America. This publication describes the "Great Orient Journey" with the two turbine steamer "Victoria Luise." However, the four-page photo-illustrated inlay announces that this journey won't be taken with the steamer "Victoria Luise," but one of the newest transatlantic steamers, the "Cincinnati."
Following the title page of the publication a full-page map in color indicates the travel route. In addition this publication is beautifully illustrated with thirty-eight color photographs, eight full page, and forty-four b/w photographs documenting the stages of this journey, with an additional full-page map in color.
In separate chapters the publication gives an overview of the voyages available through HAPAG, promotes the health benefits of travel by sea, provides the itinerary and prices for the journey as well as general regulations. One chapter contains price list and itinerary for partial stages, another offers descriptions and conditions for excursions on land and one the descriptions of the places visited during the journey.
The latter part offers various other journeys with HAPAG, exchange rates, a description of the Berlin office and a list of main offices of the company. A b/w folding plan at rear contains floor plans of the five decks of the steamer. Text in German, Gothic script. Wraps with light creasing at upper front cover near foredge, small closed tears, incl. a one inch tear at tail of spine, and lightly rubbed. Light bump at lower foredge corner of block.
