"I have long sought materials from which one could construct, with some vigor and some richness, a detailed map of Egypt in its current state. My work on this subject is not recent or of recent date. A map of modern Egypt, kept in manuscript in the portfolio since the year 1750 offers little from the one I published in the present work, except that it is more restricted in its scale..." (Preface) Illustrated with maps, including "Egyptus Antiqua," a plan of Alexandria, and various maps from Egyptian regions, and the Red Sea and the Arabic Gulf latter part. Contains table of Ancient and Modern authors, and of some memoirs and geographical pieces cited in this work as well as an index by subject at rear. Text in French. Calf boards with some wear and rubbing and block age-toned. Ribbon marker frayed at end. Good to very good condition. Item #54386
