Die Judenschaft in Frankfurt und ihre Rechte (The Jewry in Frankfurt and Their Rights)

NP: NP, 1817. First edition Ex-Library. Hardcover. Duodecimo. iv, 52pp. Bound in contemporary half pebbled cloth over marbled boards with blue sticker on spine. Introduced as an overview of civil rights of Jews in Frankfurt, with commentary. It explicitly states that it is not an attempt to provide a historical outline or make a political statement, but to provide a strictly judicial interpretation. A subject matter, which according to the author, is not often thought about, if not ignored entirely.

The pamphlet elaborates on the age-old strife between Jews and Christians in Europe. He cites the French Revolution as the trigger unleashing the desire of Jews to be treated equally, reject the demand to assimilate, and eventually outmatch the non Jewish contemporaries.

In seven points the author offers a foundation, without any prejudice and spite, to characterize the Jews and their plight all across the world. The Jews are a foreign people, a closed nation that is unable to mix with the people of their guest nation. As foreigners they cannot reign or offer any service to put them on equal footing with indigenous populations. The author belabors the lack of interest in the Jewish population to support themselves by means of agriculture or the crafts, suggesting to influence them to pick up crafts as a means to sustain themselves and elaborates on various issues of host country's sovereignty and subsequent delineation of Royal, state and city laws and ordinances.
