Rebound in period 3/4 blue buckram over green marbled paper boards. Original pink printed paper wrappers bound in. This scarce work is the Yiddish translation of an educational work about zoology by the noted Russian academic, popular science writer, and bibliographer Nikolai Alexandrovich Rubakin (1862-1946). The original edition "Tales of Deeds in the Animal Kingdom" from which this Yiddish translation is derived, was published in Russian in 1897 by D. Sytin (now extremely scarce, no OCLC holdings). Following the text are 12 unnumbered double-sided leaves containing a total of 33 b/w reproductions after original steel plate engravings of animals.
Text throughout in Yiddish, with additional Russian title page (back wrapper).
Binding with minor rubbing to extremities. Minor to light stains, smudges and age toning to the original bound in wrappers. Pages throughout with age toning, with some becoming slightly brittle, otherwise text and images clean throughout. Book block tight.
