[New York]: Jewish Peace Fellowship, 1942. First edition. Loose leaf. 8.5x14". Double-sided mimeographed broadside newsletter (single leaf). Issued in (for) August of 1942, this is the first publication of the recently establish Jewish Peace Fellowship. As stated in this initial newsletter, the Jewish pacifist organization was formed in the New York area in 1941-1942, by a combination of Columbia University students, pacifist Rabbis and Jewish military officers. The organization was headed initially by Rabbi Arthur J. Lelyveld (1913-1966) and Rabbi Isidor B. Hoffman (1899-1981). Aso involved in the organization were Max Ticktin, Kurt Wolff, and Abraham Cronbach. Among the initial aims of the the JPF was to raise money to support concientious objectors in CPS Camps (Civilian Public Service Camps) during the war. Other text includes information promoting the upcoming JPS conference to be held in New York City on August 2nd, 1942, information about local chapters of the organization, and a few relevant biblical quotes. Also mentions are nation chapters in Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and Cincinnati. An interesting piece of 20th century American Jewish history and perspective during WWII.
