The Iranian Women's Liberation Group was set up in May 1979 following a conference on the Iranian women that was held in London at that time. It was felt by the conference organizers that after the Revolution in Iran, and the emerging women's movement there, it was necessary for the Iranian women in other countries to get together and form groups that would help in raising consciousness, becoming aware of their rights – or lack of it in – help with the struggles of the women's groups in Iran, in whatever way they can, and finally work towards a better understanding of the Iranian women's situation by the public."
