The last volume of the Bauhaus book series, which was published between 1925 and 1930. The title "von material zu architektur" (from material to architecture) was a quote by Moholy-Nagy, expressing his idealistic & utopic, as well as brilliant, 'ahead-of-his-time' thought and ideas. Volume 14 is based on Moholy-Nagy's lectures from 1923-28 at the Bauhaus in which he expresses his artistic views. After offering a 'new view to the world' based on the art of painting in cubism, Moholy-Nagy stresses the role of "Tastsinn" (with "Tasttafeln, Tasttrommel, etc.), uses examples in sculpture, finally leading to the perception of space (architecture). Profusely illustrated with b/w reproductions of photographs showing works by Brancusi, Alexander Archipenko, Mataré, Barlach, Oskar Schlemmer, Picasso, Gerhard Spitzer, Rodin, da Vinci, Rudolf Belling, Rodschenko, Moholy-Nagy, Joost Schmidt, Anni Wildberg, Georg Gross, Gerda Marx, Sörensen-Popitz, Franz Ehrlich, Jacques Lipchitz, Le Corbusier, Walter Gropius, and others.
