The seventh year (1939) in the annually issued series of reference works on events in the political, economic, and social life of the Second Polish Republic. The series was published by the Polish Telegraphic Agency, the official state-owned news outlet, starting in 1932. This, the 1939 edition, was the final year published, due to the German occupation of Poland, at the start of the Second World War. After this point the agency operated in exile along with all other departments of the Polish government, for the duration of the War. The publication of this series resumed many years later, from 1960-1988, this time published by Polski Wydawnictwa Gospodarcze.
Included are the directories for and discussions on the topics of population statistics, foreign policy, governmental structure and officials, the legal system, financial institutions, important laws and regulations, education, new developments in science and art, religious institutions and agriculture, among countless others. The extensive table of contents is at the back. Includes numerous statistical tables as well as period advertisements throughout. Contains two plates of b/w photographic reproductions after photo-portraits of then Polish President Ignacy Mościcki (p.84) and Commander-in-Chief of Poland's armed forces Edward Rydz-Śmigly (p.110). An invaluable resource for studying the history of Poland during this period.
