Re-bound in modern dark brown soft leather boards with blind-stamped debossed decorative motifs on the front cover. Spine with gilt lettering, blind-stamped motifs and raised bands. Modern endpapers. Title page with decorative woodcut borders. The first edition of Zikhron Yosef by Joseph ben Menahem Steinhardt (ca.1720-1776), a leading Rabbi and posek of Jewish community of Fürth, Germany. This work in four parts, takes the form of a religious-legal responsa (know as "She'elot u-Teshuvot" in Rabbinic literature), in the form of questions and answers, based on the Shulchan Aruch. A leading Talmudist and highly respected Jewish legal scholar of the period, Steinhardt was sent questions from Jewish communities across Europe including Hungary, Italy, Amsterdam and Switzerland. Sections of book contain attacks on Hasidism. The book includes introductory text at the front, some poems from the author, novellae, sermons and an index at the rear.

Text throughout in Hebrew, printed in a two column format, mostly in Rashi script.

Binding with rubbing to the hinges of the spine, and some light rubbing to corners. Interior with minor age toning to pages, as well as some light foxing and sporadic water staining, mostly confined to the margins. Sporadic worming resulting in minor loss of text in a few places. Title page and a few other places contain library ink stamps. A few period notes in ink on the title page. Binding in good+, interior in good condition overall. g to g+. Item #50848
