This rare Japanese work is was originally published as part of the series issued in 17 volumes between 1929 and 1931, showing some of the finest examples of modern architecture in Europe and North America.

This, the sixteenth volume of the series, is dedicated to Russia. It includes 15 plates containing a total of 30 images, all finely printed in gravure, reproducing photographs of architecture, measured drawings, and architectural models. Includes the following: Constructivist Vladimir Tatlin's monument for the Third International, a three-dimensional construction made of wood and metal (Plate 1); Nikolai Ladovski's project of a restaurant and landing platform on a cliff (Plate 2); Leonid and Victor Vesnin's maquette for the Leningradskaia Pravda (Plate 3); Konstantin Melnikov's Soviet pavilion at the 1925 Exhibition of Decorative Arts, in Paris (Plate 4); Architectural project by Kotschar (Plate 5); Alexander Nikolsky's Kirov Stadium (Plate 6); a famous photomontage portrait of El Lissitzky, as well as his famous Wolkenbügel skyscrapers (Plate 7); Architectural project by Alexander Nikolsky (Plate 8); A. Siltschenko's projects for the Kurort-Hotel in Budva, and the Bürobau der zentralen Industrieverwaltung (Plate 9); Ivan Zholtovsky's MOGES Powerplant (Plate 10); G. Brachin's "Isvestia" Building (Plate 11); Leonid Aleksandrovich Vesnin's Mostorg department store (Plate 12); Konstantin Melnikov's Rusakov Club (Plate 13); Modern construction (Plate 14); Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret's maquette for the Centrosoyuz building (Plate 15).

Portfolio with some minor to light creases and smudges to the covers, as well as some rubbing to the extremities, including the spine. First page of the text plate age toned. All plates contain the ink stamp "Kumi" of a previous owner, in orange in the margins. Some plates with sporadic minor to light water stains, mostly in the margins. Images mostly quite clean. Slipcase in fine, portfolio in very good, plates in very good to very good+ condition overall. Portfolio protected in modern mylar. vg to fine. Item #50780
