This remarkable work shows the main results of the second Sir Robert Mond Desert Expedition: a selection of engravings and paintings collected in the Western Desert of Southern Upper Egypt. It is profusely illustrated with 102 b/w photographic plates and one large folding map at rear of each volume. Each photograph is accompanied by the number of the site and the number of its negative. Contains indices at rear of text parts. Laid in a small sketch (4 3/4 x 3") on transparent paper with pencil description. Both volumes signed A. J. Arkell and dated 1939, volume two with addition of "Khartoon." Arkell was a British archaeologist and colonial administrator. He is noted for his work in the Sudan and Egypt. Bindings lightly rubbed with light bumps to corners. Endpapers and map in volume one with light foxing. Map in volume one with light creasing along edges. Some light pencil markings and notes in margins. and on front free endpaper of volume one. Bindings in good, interiors in very good condition. Good to very good condition. Item #50453
