Published in conjunction with the exhibition "Jazz Dedicated to Cool Cats" held at the Nabio Museum of Fine Art, Osaka, Japan, Feb. 7 - Mar. 5, 1991.

This remarkable work is a love letter to American Jazz and its musicians, and is an essential piece of photo-documentation on the subject. Illustrated throughout in b/w with high-quality photographic reproductions after original images taken by famed American photographer William Paul Gottlieb (1917 – 2006) and French photographer Jean-Pierre Leloir (1931 - 2010). There are a total of 95 images (54 by Gottleib and 41 by Leloir), showing many of the towering Jazz and Blues figures of the period 1940-1989, in performance and casual situations. Many of the greats shown here include Leadbelly, Louie Armstrong, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Doris Day, Lester Young, Sonny Rollins, Oscar Peterson, Dizzy Gillespie, B.B. King, Albert King, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Django Reinhardt, Thelonius Monk, Chet Baker, Charles Mingus, Bobby McFerrin, Roland Kirk, Eric Dolphy, Stan Kenton, Quincy Jones, Billy Holiday, Lena Horne, Sarah Vaughn, Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, Benny Goodman, Quincy Jones, Chick Corea and Leonard Bernstein, among countless others. Many of these images have since gone on to be considered iconic photos of these performers. Each photo is numbered and captioned in English. With a few pages of additional text, and photographers biographies in Japanese.
