First edition. With a wonderful allegorical title in both Hebrew and Latin: "The daughter assists as midwife to the mother". Johann Abraham Kromayer (1665-1733) views the Arabic language as the "daughter" (believed to be more recent) who helps to extract meaning from the "mother", the earlier Hebrew of the Scriptures. Kromayer here labors somewhat in the shadow of his contemporary, the Dutch orientalist Albert Schultens, a great pioneer of such comparative studies in the semitic tongues, especially Arabic, in the interest of biblical exegesis.
