"The basic incentive for the playwright was not King Ubu, but Fettered Ubu, a much less known play only rarely performed. The Fettered Ubu fascinated us by his merciless unveiling of bureaucratized freedom, which is nothing else but strictly controlled orders, in other words, the same kind of tyranny as the former bondage. The Fettered Ubu though does not have such history making energy and inventiveness as the "classical" King Ubu. We therefore decided to combine King Ubu and Fettered Ubu into one play, the model of which was the great tragedy based on Shakespeare histories." (Grossman).
The play was directed by Jan Grossman, set design by Libor Fára. Profusely illustrated with b/w photographs of the production throughout.
