Jerzy Zulawski (1874-1915) was a prominent Polish literary figure of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. During his career he worked as a novelist, playwright, poet, translator and philosopher. He is considered a pioneer of science-fiction with "The Lunar Trilogy" of science-fiction novels (1901-1911), his most famous work. Being a Polish patriot his served in the Polish military during WWI, and died after contracting typhus on the front lines in 1915. The author's grandnephew, Polish filmmaker Andrzej Zulawski, infamously attempted to adapt the the Lunar Trilogy for the screen in the 1970s, without success.
