Though the term Expressionism as well as the movement was always rejected by Max Beckmann himself he is considered and classified as the foremost German Expressionist. In the 1920s Beckmann associated himself with the movement of the New Objectivity (Neue Sachlichkeit). Contains register of Beckmann's important paintings, a register of his graphics and a list of plates at end of text part. Laid in a one-page advertisement of Beckmann's artwork published by R. Piper & Co. Text in German. Dustjacket with light wear along edges, small closed tear and chips and some light staining at upper left corner of back cover; spine lightly sunned. Tissue guard of etching at front with vertical crease and one inch closed tear at bottom edge. Text with one line underlined on pages 64 and 65.
