WW II Equestrian Album of the German Cavalry Captain Konrad Bensberg. A Collection of 252 Original Silver Gelatin Prints
1943. Hardcover. Oblong Quarto. 20 leaves. Original string-bound stiff dark brown leaves bound to additional stiff leaf inserted into back pocket of leather binding with silver ruling to cover with brown silk liner on inside cover. Included two official documents. The photographs (2 3/8 x 3" to 4 1/4 x 6 5/8") show Bensberg at tournaments, horseback riding, at an award ceremony, dressage, in stables, tending to horses, with comrades, with his regiment on horseback, various vacation photographs, etc.
One of the documents is an order, dated November 3, 1943, from the Army Horse Stable 526 for Bensberg and the officers of his unit to participate in a Hunt on Hubertus Day on November 6, 1943 in Bettole near Varese, Italy. The staff veterinarian ads that horses with the ability to participate are to be put in motion to allow for proper resting before the hunt. The survey of the hunting grounds is to be taken by Cavalry Captain Bensberg. Signed by the staff veterinarian. The other document is an ID card for Cavalry Captain Konrad Bensberg to cross borders for the time from March 4th to March 10th 1943 starting at Cherson going through Transnistria, Rumania, Hungary via the Nikolajew bridge (German border crossing) to Cologne. The ID was issued in Nikolajew and is signed by a army captain (Korvettenkapitän). Text of documents in German, Russian. Leather binding with wear along edges, small chips at corners, some fraying at head and tail of spine. Some photographs with light yellowing or light fading, some with light oxidation at corners, occasional stains and light creasing. Good condition. Item #47922
