As stated in the preface, this religiously-minded travelogue that "was undertaken at the desire of the Committee of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland for the Conversion of the Jews. The writers had only one objective in view during their journey, namely, to see the real condition and character of God's ancient people, and to observe whatever might contribute to interest others in their cause". Illustrated throughout with twenty-one b/w in-text and five full page steel plate engravings, including a full page topographical plan of Jerusalem by J. Gellatly, Edinburgh, in volume one, and twenty-three b/w in-text engravings in volume two. Extensive tables of contents, index of biblical passages referenced, and list of engravings in each volume.
Bindings with some wear along edges, scuffing and small chips with small closed tears at top and bottom of joints, rubbed. Usual library markings, library barcode on cover, sticker on spine, stamps at top and bottom edges of block; library bookplate on inside front, library pocket on inside back cover.
