Original photo-illustrated invitation to a reception honoring the athletes and the tradition of the 1932 Olympics on Sunday, July 22, 1932. The event was organized by Bullock's Beverly Center in cooperation with Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Los Angeles. The occasion was an exhibition entitled "The Coca-Cola 1932 Olympic Gallery of Photo Illustrations" at the Bullock's Beverly Center, 8500 Beverly Boulevard. The two photographs featured on the front depict a general view of the opening ceremony of July 30 and a presentation of the medals awarded to athletes in the men's freestyle light heavyweight, American Peter Mehringer (Gold), the Swede Thure Sjöstedt (Silver), and Australian Eddie Scarf (Bronze) in the Olympic Stadium. One of the officials presenting the medals being William May Garland, member of the International Olympic Committee. In 1923 he had gone to Rome and secured the 1932 Summer Olympics for Los Angeles. He became president of the Tenth Olympiad Committee.

The Games of the X Olympiad were held in Los Angeles, California, from July 30 to August 14, 1932. Due to the worldwide Great Depression only thirty-seven nations were represented in the competitions, compared to forty-six in the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam. The games set a precedent with the construction of the Olympic Village in Baldwin Hills, occupied by male athletes, becoming a model for future games. Female athletes were housed at the Chapman Park Hotel on Wilshire Blvd. Despite the serious handicap of the depression local newspapers at the time claimed that the organizers had made a profit of $1,000,000. president Herbert Hoover did not attend the Games. Light age-toning along foredge of front side, somewhat browned on verso. Very good- condition. Item #47813
