Original brown printed wrappers with black lettering on the front cover, bound in. An obscure catalogue with 1194 individual Arabic and Turkish-language manuscripts on a wide variety of subjects, then in the collection of Dutch publishing house E.J. Brill. The publisher was renowned throughout Europe as among the foremost in producing academic texts on middle-eastern, Arabic and Islamic subjects, translations of major works, and for their long-standing relationship with Leiden University which was the leading European institution for these studies. Included here are works pertaining to literature, poetry, humanities, arts, sciences, language studies, and Islamic subjects, as well as major significant works and some which are very rare. Each item is numbered and has its name printed in Arabic script, with French text underneath. The catalogue was edited and organized by leading Dutch orientalist and professor Martijn Theodoor Houtsma (1851- 1943), who contributes a preface and table of contents, organized by subject, at the front.

An ex-library copy with stickers on the front cover and the tail of the spine. Some rubbing and bumping to extremities. Library book plate and label pasted on the interior front and rear covers, respectively. Gutters of the interior front cover and the bound-in original wrapper reinforces with tape. Title page detached but present. A number of pages throughout contain light marginal markings or notes in pencil. Binding in good+, interior in good- to good condition overall. g- to g+. Item #47741
