My Camera on Point Lobos
Yosemite National Park / Boston: Virginia Adams / Houghton Mifflin, 1950. First edition. Hardback. Folio. 79 (1)pp. Original spiral-bound black boards with white lettering on cover, in original photo-illustrated dustjacket.
30 photographs and excerpts from Edward Weston's daybook. "My work is always a few jumps ahead of what I say about it. I am simply a means to an end: I cannot, at the time, say why I record a thing in a certain way, or why I record it at all. The artist is an instrument through which inarticulate mankind speaks: he may be a prophet who at a needed moment points the way, forming the future, or he may be born at a time when his work is a culmination, a flowering in soil already prepared. If my work has vitality it is because I have done my part in revealing to others the living world about them, showing to them what their own untrained eyes had missed." (Weston). Beautiful collection of photographs showing Point Lobos with its spectacular cypress trees clinging to the edge of the continental shelf.
