Yiddish: פּראסטע טריט, י. פעפער

Itzik Fefer (1900-1952) was a prominent Ukrainian-born Soviet-Yiddish poet. He was prolific and his poetry was acclaimed by his peers. With his leftist proclivities, he was a prominent member of the Jewish Anti-Fascist Committee (JAC) and in 1943, along Solomon Mikhoels, the committee’s chair, he visited the United States, Canada, Mexico, and England, successfully mobilizing pro-Soviet support. He later fell out of favor with Soviet authorities, and along with his fellow JAC member fell under suspicion. In 1952 he was ultimately executed on the Night of the Murdered Poets, during Joseph Stalin's purges.
