Folio. v, 42pp. Original brown half cloth over tan boards with black lettering and publisher's device on cover, black lettering on paper label of spine. Publisher's device on title page. The Code of Hammurabi is one of the early surviving law codes. It is housed in the Louvre and was excavated in 1901/02 by a French expedition. Originally with twenty-three columns on the front, and twenty-eight on the back. The last seven columns on the font were effaced by the Elamite conquerers, who had transported the monument to Susa. The Code of Hammurabi is presented here in heliogravure along with Babylonian and Assyrian fragments. Text in German and Cuneiform. Some wear along edges of binding, small chips and creasing at top front cover of foredge. Light staining and rubbed. Paper label of spine chipped with lettering almost imperceptible. Starting at inside front cover with small dealer sticker in upper left corner. Endpapers browned and block lightly age-toned. Binding in overall good-, interior in good condition. g- to g.
