"He (the author) to combine his special object–to dig for the relics of the past, with his natural propensity to dig into the minds, and characters, of the modern occupants of the territories of Carthage. Both diggings, it will be observed, have yielded fruit, equal in quantity, but very different in quality," (Author). Beautifully illustrated work including twenty-one engravings of Carthage sites, four sepia-toned, including frontispiece, six plates with maps and plans, two of them folding, plus folding map at front, two plates showing Punic inscriptions, and two plates with color frescos. Usual library markings, barcode, sticker, library bookplate, index card and stamps. Nine of the plates with heavy staining along edges, affecting parts of the images. Folding map reinforced with white paper tape, but 3 1/3 inch closed tear. Light chipping along edges of page one. Else in very good condition. vg. Item #47031
