Original brown tree calf binding, rebacked with brown library tape with white embossed lettering on brown plastic tape. Half-title. With hand-colored, engraved folding map of Hungary, particularly of its rivers, natural resources and production capacities. The hand-colored areas indicate ten different ethnicities, Germans, Hungarians, Slavonians, Wallachians, Russians, Vandals, etc. Detailed travelog of Hungary describing natural resources, cultural infrastructure, special features oft he country, e.g. "National Dislike to the Austrians," the constitutional composition, mineralogical remarks, an excursion into the Alps, and many other facets of the Hungarian state, with a short account of Vienna in the year 1793.
Contains appendices on entomology and flora, an advertisement for Townson's book "Elements of Mineralogy," and index at rear. Light wear along edges of binding with and some staining at top of back cover near spine. Starting at inside covers. Some light foxing of endpapers, half-title and last page. Map reinforced with white paper (3 1/2 x 1 1/2") near spine, and a few small closed tears at folds. Plates with foxing, at times light in margins, some with very light foxing in palates, mostly though with light to medium foxing in imagery. With 15 of 16 plates.
