Top edge gilt. Frontispiece and half-title engravings. Fascinating account by William Henry Bartlett (1809-1854) of his forty day journey in the late 1840's from Cairo to Petra. Bartlett was a British artist, best known for his numerous steel engravings. Illustrated with twenty-six full-page, including frontispiece, and eighteen in-text steel engravings, including two maps, by Bartlett. Includes one b/w folding map of Arabia Petrae. Spine reinforced professionally with burgundy library tape with gilt lettering. Usual library markings, library barcode,library sticker on spine, library bookplate and donation plate on inside front cover, library pocket and index card on inside back cover. Library stamps at top and bottom edges. Starting at half-title. Binding with light wear along edges and rubbed. Some foxing of frontispiece and plates.
