British traveller and amateur excavator, Nathan Davis (1812-1882) is mostly known for his work on the site of Carthage - "Carthage and Her Remains" - which he published in 1861.
However, his next book "Ruined Cities within Numidian and Carthaginian Territories" published the following year (1862), really deserves to be better known as, until then, there was no description by any traveller of the ruined cities in Numidia, and in the territories of Tripoli and Pentapolis.
This work is illustrated with four in-text and eight full-page steel engravings, as well as a folded map of Carthaginian and Numidian Africa.
Some fading to spine. Minor and sporadic foxing throughout. Binding in overall good, interior in good+ to very good condition. g to vg. Item #46169
