The work was published to commemorate the sixtieth anniversary of successful American businessman, merchant and civic leader John Wanamaker's entry into business, and to document the proceedings of the anniversary celebratory luncheon held on April 26th 1921, at the Bellevue-Stratford Hotel, in Philadelphia. The event was organized by a committee comprised of leading local figures of the era, including prominent Pennsylvania and Philadelphia politicians, civic leaders and captains of industry such as J. Hampton Moore, William Cameron Sproul, George Wharton Pepper, Samuel Rea, Edwin Sydney Stuart, Robert von Moschzisker and Samuel M. Vauclain. Content includes a record of correspondence leading up to and related to the event, a reproduction of the luncheon menu cards and a detailed record of statements and speeches given. Also included are a biographical timeline of Wanamaker's life and a list of attendees, which included many other prominent local figures. Illustrated with a total of 4 tissue-guarded b/w photographic reproductions, including the frontispiece portrait of Wanamaker, and three images of Wanamaker stores (including the original Wanamaker brothers' storefront of 1861).

Binding with some rubbing, bumping and/or chipping to extremities. Cover with some light stains and scratches, and some light rubbing to the front and rear hinges of the spine. Interior with some sporadic minor to light waters stains and smudging, including to the front endpapers frontispiece and title page, mostly affecting the margins only.
