NP: Privately Printed, [1945]. First edition. Softcover. Quarto (10 3/4 x 9"). [55], 55 leaves, as issued. Original string bound wrappers, with blue lettering to front cover.

This scarce volume is a collection of 55 documents reproduced in facsimile, followed by their translation into English, absolving the Marquis and Marquise de Polignac of any collaboration with the enemy deed during the Nazi occupation of France from 1940 to 1944.

Most of the documents are related to the Marquise de Polignac, who was arrested on 9/1/1944 and freed 3 months later, on 12/4/1944 without any accusation having been made against her.

Her husband, François de Polignac was one of the few parliamentaries who refused to vote in favor of the full power given to Marshal Pétain in July 1940. This act was seen as an hostile one both by the German occupation authority and by Vichy. He was sentenced to a 5 year prison term, but was released after one month of incarceration.

As stated by the couple in their Foreword, "Precisions? Exactly, precisions and nothing else. There is no reason to justify ourselves, but there is reason to state facts precisely. Too much has been said and done for us to continue to be silent. Continued silence would seem like compliance, which we wish to avoid. Our mutual activity has always been desinterested and directed solely to being useful to our compatriots and to our country. The following extracts are published without commentary and only to enlighten those of our friends who may have been troubled by insinuating reports."

Wrappers age-toned and partly creased along edges. Text in French and English. Wrappers in overall good- to good, interior in good+ to very good condition. g- to vg. Item #45676
