The book is a collection of 6 separate French studies originally published between 1865-1867, and during the Franco-Prussian War (1970) on the subject of the design, manufacture and use of military artillery. All of the studies originate from the larger 9-volume set by Julien François Turgan, "Les grandes usines de France" (The Grand Factories of France,1863-1870). Illustrated throughout with engraved figures showing technical and design schematics for the artillery and their manufacture.
