Building [UNIQUE PRESENTATION COPY]

London: Tersons Ltd./ Bildon Press, 1960. First edition. Hardcover. Large quarto. Unpaginated. A unique presentational copy for Sir Andrew M. MacTaggart, finely bound in a deluxe signed red leather binding by Sangorski & Sutcliffe. Debossed gilt lettering and company insignia on the front cover, with gilt ruling on the front cover and spine with raised bands. Top edge gilt. Interior covers with printed Tersons logo in red. Illustrated frontispiece in color.

The work, produced by the British construction firm Tersons Limited, promotes and praises the achievements of the building and construction industry in the modern era, and includes the firm's mission statement. There are only a few sporadic text pages, but the publication is profusely illustrated throughout with countless full page duo-tone and full color photographic reproductions. These depict a wide range of the company's completed construction and infrastructure projects from around the UK, those under construction, and a few other images showing the use of these locations. The projects range from commercial and residential properties to government structures, schools and hospitals. Notable examples include Eastbourne Terrace (Paddington, London), The Government Offices at Five Ways House on Islington Row (Birmingham), Loughborough housing Estate (Brixton, London), Central School of Art and Design (London), and Central Synagogue, Great Portland Street (London). Each image is captioned with the crediting the architectural firms and/or individuals associated with the project.

Also included throughout are numerous reproductions of expressionist drawings relating to the locations depicted, by acclaimed polish artist Feliks Topolski, who was commissioned for this publication. Many of these are printed on fold-out sheets of colored handmade paper, with the firm's insignia stamped on. These have been bound in. The front contains a dedication and thanks from the chairman of the board of the firm. The back of the book contains a directory of the company's offices.

Binding with the minor rubbing to the corners and along edges. Gilt along the top edge lightly rubbed. Interior front covers, endpapers, the half-title and title page with minor to light foxing. Light abrasions to the front free endpaper. A few sporadic minor water stains to a number of pages throughout, with images almost entirely unaffected. Binding in near fine, interior in very good+ condition overall. Extremely scarce. vg+ to near fine. Item #44832
