Frau im Mond (Film-Magazin) [Woman in the Moon]

Berlin: Verlag Illustrierte Filmwoche, 1929. First edition. Softcover. Large quarto. 12x9". Unpaginated [18 pages, including advertisements]. B/w photo illustrated staple-bound wrappers, with black and grey lettering on the front cover. This is a theatrical film program for the UFA-produced 1929 science-fiction film "Frau im Mond", directed by Fritz Lang.

The film is now considered one of the first "serious" science fiction films, in that it utilized the full scope of technical, scientific and theoretical knowledge of space travel known at the time, and introduced a number of "firsts" that would go on to become standard elements in future science fiction stories.

The program is illustrated throughout with b/w photogravure images showing stills from the film, printed by Verlag August Scherl. Also shown are headshots of the stars Willy Fritsch and Gerda Maurus, as well as director/writer Fritz Lang (front cover) and writer Thea von Harbou. Text accompanying the images discusses various stages of the production from its initial development through filming, the stars of the film, and includes discussions the scientific aspects of the film by various scientists, including rocketry and astronautics pioneer Dr. Hermann Oberth, who served as technical advisor on the film. Two short sections are written by Lang and Harbou themselves. Also included are 4 pages of movie theater and film advertisements, including specific information on the premiere of the film at the UFA-Palast Aegidientorplatz.
