"It might be interesting to know that very few of these doorways approach the mechanical perfection of present day work, The height of the openings, taken at the jambs, may vary as much as an inch, and the dimensions of capitals, cornices, or other ornamental parts may vary proportionally. Some of this may be due to settlement, but is more than likely due to the fact that the stone was quarried from older buildings and the builders had to use what was available.' (Author).
