The work is illustrated throughout with some in-text illustrations and figures, including portraits, as well a number of full-page illustrative maps in b/w. The back of the book contains a 7-page table of contents and a page of advertisements. Text in Russian.
Binding with some rubbing and bumping to extremities. Some light smudges and rippling to the covers. Interior with a piece of the title page cut out, with no loss of text. Yuliy Isidorovich Gessen (aka Julius Isidorovich Hessen 1871-1939) was a Russian-Jewish writer, historian and political activist. He was known as a prolific social activist on behalf of the rights of Russian Jews, as was a member of numerous Jewish and academic societies. He was a significant contributor to the Russian edition of the Jewish Encyclopedia (1907-1913).
