White buckram boards with gilt-stamped illustrations and lettering on the front covers, gilt lettering on spines. Top edges in gilt. This is copy #524 from a limited edition of 1000 copies, hand-numbered on the colophon. This expansive and lavishly produced visual catalog and survey of Chinese porcelain ceramics is illustrated throughout with a total of 254 plates of high-quality color photographic reproductions. The final group of 24 plates depict various pieces carved from jade as well as other semiprecious stones. Opposite each plate is an accompanying detailed text description in English and French, and each image is protected by a tissue guard. As stated in the preface, "the efforts of the authors have been directed to securing the reproduction of the finest specimens to be found in private collections and museums, and to classifying and faithfully describing them. To thoroughly appreciate Chinese porcelain it should be borne in mind that everything used in the decoration has its significance." The volumes are organized according the color-type and production methods.

Titles pages and text throughout in both English and French.

Bindings with some minor smudges and scratches to the covers. Right and bottom edges of the book blocks with some light foxing. Light sporadic foxing to endpapers, title pages and to pages throughout, with images and text almost entirely unaffected. Bindings in very good to very good+ condition, interiors in very good- condition overall. vg- to vg+. Item #43855

Edgar Gorer (1872 - 1915) was a British art dealer, who was among the must successful dealers of Chinese art and antiques, in his time. He died tragically during the sinking of the RMS Lusitania on May 7th 1915, during WWI.
